HEY!

We did it! We got not one, but two count 'em two goats! Ebony the Alpine and Obelia the Saanen. They are sweet and wonderful and rode home in the car without a hitch.

I must say though, it is a rather sickening sound hearing a goat pee in your car. We're leaving it air out over night. It's a stinker!

But you don't care about that! You want to see goats!!

Ebony and Mander:

Two two two goats in a car!

No smellovision, but this:

Listening to myself I think I sound a little deranged. It might be true. We were starving and stopped to get Arby's. Except that we both needed to wash our hands and such, the drive through would have been GREAT! The people in the parking lot were pretty amused.

They are! These two are really sweet too. Obelia was so patient with Mander milking her last night, without any of her usual sights or sounds or equipment.

Cute goats! They didn't go on the tarp?

Date: 2009-04-03 11:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crowjoy.livejournal.com
Well they were on a tarp, but goats pee straight out the back in a sort of whoosh, so I'm pretty sure it's all down the window and side of the boot.

Ah, I see.Ick. Try vinegar and baking soda before using any enzymatic cleaner. I find they work better at the smell.

we made the barn into a duplex. One side is for the chickens with access to the outside play area, with an electrified net. Poop all over everything gets REALLY OLD! The other side is for the goats. I built some stalls out of old pallets (i love pallets) and a milking platform. The ducks live with the goats and can go outside to the pond. The goats will also be let out to the play area, if it ever stops raining (princesses HATE getting their feet wet!) The turkeys are in a separate run, I want them to make babies. Tom is a little clueless however. And they need to stop attacking my wife and neighbors.

They were remarkably calm through the whole thing, only acting up when Mander got out of the car at Arby's. But maybe that was them smelling the fries.

ohmigod! I got only halfway through your post (at work) and cracked up laughing. Still can't keep a straight face. I think it was the comment about the goats peeing that got me, and then I made the mistake of scrolling down to the picture. ohmigod, can't breathe. Goats! in a car! at Arby's!

Fan. Tastic!

I must now share a goat story. My cousin lives in a big, ramshackle house out in the country in Maine, and is married to a real Maineiac. They have four kids, lots of animals, and no money, but they seem happy. Anyway...her second-youngest son, P, has some behavior issues, and his child psychologist told her to get him a dog. The logic was that it would be loyal, but give him something to be responsible for, etc. Well, my cousin hates dogs, and remembered reading that goats keep horses company, etc, so she gets him a goat. He loved it! One day, she came home and couldn't find P or the goat. Turns out they were upstairs, in her bed, under the covers, watching tv together!!!!
