Random bits

The quiet has been noted, so sorry! Here are some random bits. Maybe I'll upload pictures later. Oh what? Random bits, ha! (no no, it's a family journal.)

So:

Cranky today. Still in my jammies grateful I don't have to go into the office. In the mood to sit around and daydream happy dreams and maybe watch movies.

Peter Brady, the rooster, has a new home. In his place my wife brought home 5 more chicks who now have to be house separately from the other hens until they're big enough to fight back. Sigh.

My enthusiasm for a job opening I'm becoming unsure really exists on another team, which would be primarily writing, is waning as it's been 3 days since I sent boss-requested email with no response. Impatient?

We have reservations at the Hostel for the end of the month when I will NOT be on call and can enjoy no electronics and my family up close and probably chilly. Showering outdoors when it's chilly and the water is steamy is the BEST. I like to pee in the woods too.

I'm bleeding (see cranky above) but I'm using my new cloth pads and they make me happy. I have plans to make more myself and some as gifts for friends. You've been warned: if you're crunchy and on my holiday list you better tell me now if you can't deal.

Speaking of, I keep my used pads in a bucket of water near the terlit until they can be washed the next day. Last night during a typical "i don't want to do something you want me to so i'm going to claim i have to wee" episode during dinner, where the girls ran off to the bathroom, Ruby comes back with the bucket. The look on Mander's face was priceless. Interesting conversation about blood cycles and grown up women and buckets not to be messed with ensued.

Also speaking of holiday gifts, it's becoming busy season! I love being an elf! Well, now that I don't have to be at the mall I do.

The aviary, otherwise known as Bird TV, is very extremely cool. We have the original zebra finch pair, plus their 3 babies, and now a second pair of shaft-tail finches. The shafties have such a sweet call. All of us (kids, dogs, cats, moms) get sucked into watching them at least once a day.

The girls seem pretty determined to be witches for Halloween. I hate that their idea of a witch is so hollywood, but we'll see how it goes. We still have to pull out the dress up stuff and see what might work. Not sure if we're dressing up as a family or not.
