The making of a feast
Dec. 23rd, 2006 07:40 amOH boy it's here! The day before the feast! It took me until thursday to clear off all other (mostly) responsibilities but I had all day yesterday to concentrate on it and it's coming together! Since I tortured you with the angst of Thanksgiving obsession I will treat you to the classic joy of the Feast.
The feast strategy is open house from 3 until 10. Early guests get a flowing wave of appetizers, snacks and sweets. Later in the afternoon I will bring out the soup buffet to round it out to a light dinner. Then later still I will bring out the real plates and all the dinner, sides and sliced desserts. All day long people will come over, they'll get and open presents, some will have brought presents and the girls will open those. We'll have music on and the house will smell good from all the stuff being warmed and served. Yay! Feast!
Here's our menu:
Apps and snacks:
*Momo meatballs in gravy
*Spinach dip
Crudite
*Palmiers (made by the famous Dr. B for TG)
Cilantro poppers
*Carmelized onion tarts
*Cream cheese beer dip
Breads
Ceasar Salad
*Pasta salad
Mozzerella/tomato/basil salad
Chewbakkies (you know those water chestnut and bacon jobs?)
*Rocka-balls and vegetarian spinach discs
Soups:
*Mixed veg vegan stew
*Vegan curries squash soup
*Creamy roasted red pepper
Sweets:
*Biscotti (again, Dr. B for TG)
*Evil bar cookies in a heath bar variety
*Cookies of various natures (choc chip and sugar at this point but I have loft goals of chocolate peppermint too)
*Candies
The chocolate fountain with apples, bananas, strawberries, animal crackers and pretzels to dip
Dinner:
*Spiral cut ham
*The turkey boobs from the 2nd turkey on TG
Cheddar potatoes
*Portabello and spinach lasagne
*Rocka-balls in casserole form
Hericot vert
Salad
Dessert:
*Carrot cake with ginger icing
*Sweet potato pie (one of the two our circus friends brought for TG, I hope it froze well)
We leave the day after Christmas so our house sitter, the Lovely Kia, will have plenty of yum to keep her busy. Eee! Feast!
(The starred things are done!)
